MaterialsThis stool is made using 100% FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council) cumaru. The FSC certification ensures that the wood has come from a sustainably managed forest, so the stool is helping to preserve the Amazon and Mata Atlantica Rainforests in Brazil, their wildlife habitats and eco systems. This product is not made from endangered tropical hardwoods. The stool is hand made and the wood has received no finishes.
PeopleThe stool helps to support local communities by giving otherwise unemployed local people the opportunity to train on 5 year furniture making apprenticeships, allowing them to acquire skills and develop a profession. As part of the FSC programme, working conditions, working hours and levels of pay are regularly inspected to make sure employees are treated fairly and work in safe conditions. TransportationThe raw wood is transported from Acre (Brazil) to Sao Paulo (Brazil) for manufacture, all other components are manufactured in Sao Paulo. The finished product is then transported from Sao Paulo to the UK (approx 6000 miles) by sea and road.
PackagingThe stool is packaged in wooden packing cases, cardboard and plastic to protect it during transportation from Brazil. It is then blanket wrapped in the UK (re-usable). Care instructionsThe stool has a life expectancy of 100 years plus. No maintenance is required.
