MaterialsThe frame of this sofa is made from 80% FSC certified beech or sycamore, 10% CMHR (Combustion Modified High Resilient) foam and 10% wool or organic leather upholstery.
The FSC is an independent body that monitors internationally agreed standards for sustainable forestry management. The FSC trademark carries the assurance that areas of woodland and endangered wildlife habitat are not being destroyed.
CMHR foam is typically used in upholstered furniture products to make sure that the UK fire safety standards are met. The foam contains fire retardant chemicals and has a high density which helps it last a long time. Due to the presence of fire retardants there may be some off gassing from this sofa.
The wool upholstery fabric is 100% wool and uses no chemical fire retardants. All fabric dyes used are synthetic, but they pass all safety regulations and are used in safe working environments. Wool is 100% sustainable and renewable, with sheep sheared up to two times per year.
The leather option uses organically tanned leather without the use of chromiums, cyanide or arsenic as with standard leather tanning processes.
PeopleThis sofa is made in Britain and supports UK furniture and textile manufacture and local employment.
Resources All water used in the heating, cooling and steam processes of the dyeing and finishing of the upholstery fabric is re-used.
TransportationThe FSC timber for the frames is shipped from Lithuania via road and sea freight to a frame builder and upholstery workshop in Yorkshire (UK), where it is processed directly from raw material into frames.
The CMHR foam is made from polyethylene chips converted to foam and are cut on site when delivered to the upholstery workshop.
PackagingThe sofa is packaged in cardboard boxes for transportation. Re-useable transportation bags are also used.
Care instructionsThe sofa is extremely hardwearing with a lifespan of 20 years+ (in domestic use). Upholstery can be professionally or sponged cleaned.
