Glass beads, jelly moulds, champagne glasses…look closely at this chandelier and you’ll see all sorts of bits and bobs from your grandma’s kitchen cupboards. Up to 85% of these chandeliers are made with recycled glass and each one is unique.
Designed and made in London by Madeleine Boulesteix.
MaterialsThe chandeliers are hand made using a mixture of reclaimed glassware and other bits and bobs such as beads and jelly moulds. Because of their recycled nature every chandelier is bespoke and will differ slightly.
Approx 60 - 85 % of the chandeliers are made from using reclaimed/ recycled glass and other objects. The chandeliers re-use as much as possible and keep new components to a minimum.
Some new beads are used in the chandelier design and these are produced by local communities in India.
PeopleThis product is made by a UK designer maker. The Indian beads are produced by loacal indian communities.
Resources The studio electricity supplied is from Good Energy – a green electricity company which uses 100% renewable sources. Low energy bulbs are used in the studio lighting.The chandeliers use low energy bulbs saving 80% electricity consumption.
TransportationThe product is made in the UK and most of the reclaimed items are found found at local car boot sales, or flea markets in the UK and France. The designer transports her materials by bike or train. Any new glass products used are transported overland from Germany.Indian beads are used which are produced by local communities in India and flown to the UK.
PackagingPackaging materials include reusing newspaper for padding and cardboard boxes. Bubble wrap is also used and is used in conjunction with re-sealable tape so as not to tear the wrapping so it can be re-used again and again.
