More Information

Materials
80% FSC certified Jatoba wood which is a Brazilian hardwood and a good alternative to Teak.  The frame is made from aluminium and the joints are made from stainless steel.
The  jatoba comes from FSC certified plantations in South America and is recomended by Greenpeace in their 'Good Wood Guide' as an alternative to teak, which is currently on the Greenpeace endangered list, and which tends to be harvested at 20 years old when it should really be left to mature for 100yrs.  The FSC certification ensures that the wood has come from a sustainably managed forest which also helps protect and promote wildlife habitats and eco systems.

The aluminium frame contains up to 10% recycled content. Aluminum is not renewable in its virgin state but is itself 100% recyclable.

The aluminum has been anodized which prevents corrosion and increases durability.

The wood has been oiled.

People
Made in Belgium.

As part of the FSC program working conditions, working hours and levels of pay are regularly inspected to make sure employees are treated fairly and work in safe conditions.

Aluminum and wood do not off gas any dangerous substances and are totally safe for the end user.

Resources
Aluminum is expensive to produce both in the cost of refining the ore and because of the massive amounts of energy required to produce it. It is the most energy intensive of all metals to produce. However it is 100% recyclable and recycled aluminum can be widely used in cast products which at best only requires 5% of the energy needed for production from the ore.

Transportation
Jatoba wood is brought by ship from South America.  Products are made in Belgium.

Care instructions
Anodising the aluminum prevents corrosion and increases durability.

Jatoba wood is chosen for its durability – it is very dense and hard and resistant to rotting and vermin. Under normal circumstances, the product doesn’t need any special maintenance. Treat it with teak oil to preserve the natural colour once or twice a year.  At first the wood will give off a red dye every time it comes into contact with water – this is a natural process and is water-soluble so it will rinse off.

100% of aluminium is recyclable.

Wood is 100%  biodegradable.
