Upholstery and mattresses

One Eco Home can supply organic or natural latex mattresses.  Please see our range at http://www.oneecohome.co.uk/mattresses-oneecohome-c.aspx

From pesticides used to grow the raw materials to fire retardant finishes, even the most apparently natural upholstery and mattresses can be full of toxic chemicals. But we’ve found a range of natural, organic and non-toxic upholstery and mattresses to give you a healthy night’s sleep.

Most standard mattresses, sofas and chairs are often made with polyurethane foam, which has a harmful effect on human health and the environment.Considering that we spend almost a third of our lives in bed it makes sense to ensure our mattress is as healthy as possible.

But it’s not all bad. These days there are alternatives: look for organic cotton batting and traditional upholstery materials like wool, sisal and coconut fibre, along with feather or down-filled cushions. Natural mattress and bedding materials like these are far superior to their synthetic counterparts as they absorb moisture and allow the skin to breathe.

Hidden nasties

Don’t forget though, that just because it’s natural, it’s not necessarily chemical-free. Many seemingly natural materials contain a cocktail of chemicals and harmful substances. These come from the array of pesticides used to grow raw materials such as those applied to conventional cotton crops, right through to the finishes applied to he end product like fire retardants, anti-creasing agents and chemical dyes. You can’t see any of these chemicals, so without realising it, we’re exposing ourselves to a constant barrage of toxins in our own homes.
