Your lie-ins will be longer than ever in the magnificent Bumerangue bed. Hand-carved from 100% sustainably managed Imbuia or Brazilian walnut, and free of any harmful wood finishes, this bed creates a safe and healthy sleeping environment you’ll never want to get up from.

Materials The beautiful Bumerangue bed is made from 100% sustainably managed Imbuia (Brazilian walnut). It has been certified by IBAMA (a Brazilian forest certification scheme), and the manufacturer of the bed works in conjunction with ‘SOS Mata Atlantica’, a forest preservation group. So far they have planted 15,000 trees in southern Brazil with the aim of re-foresting certain areas and providing a good environment for the Imbuia tree to thrive. A long-term goal is to achieve FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), status for this tree.It has been hand made and the wood has been polished. The bed has not been treated with any harmful wood finishes, which helps creates a safe and healthy sleeping environment.
People This bed supports local communities by giving otherwise unemployed local people the opportunity to train on 5 year furniture making apprenticeships, allowing them to learn skills and develop a career. Working conditions, working hours and levels of pay are regularly inspected to make sure employees are treated fairly and work in safe conditions. This piece was designed by Etel Carmona.
TransportationThe raw wood is transported from Acre (Brazil) to Sao Paulo (Brazil) for manufacture; all other components are manufactured in Sao Paulo. The finished product is then transported from Sao Paulo to the UK (approx 6000 miles) by sea and road.
Packaging The bed is packaged in wooden packing cases, cardboard and plastic to protect it during transportation from Brazil. It is then blanket wrapped in the UK (re-usable).
Care instructionsThe bed has a life expectancy of 100 years plus and can be a real heirloom piece. No maintenance is required.
