This range of screen printed wall hangings have taken their inspiration from nature and feature a botanical theme including wild grasses, flowers and plants. Printed onto a hemp and cotton canvas which is registered as a Sustainable Biodegradable product, the canvas is certified by SKAL (an EU certifying body for organic produce, equivalent to the Soil Association).
Designed by Sarah Roberts.
Materials:
SKAL certification ensures that sustainable and organic farming practices have been followed. Hemp is a particularly sustainable crop requiring no pesticides and fertilizers and minimum water to be cultivated. The use of hemp and organic fibers helps to diversify natural textiles away from the heavy reliance on conventional cotton crops, an intensive and polluting textile crop which requires the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides which are responsible for stripping the soil of nutrients and contaminating watercourses. Organic farming and agriculture encourages wildlife and biodiversity.
All the fabric finishes are low impact and are approved by SKAL. The inks used for the print are water based pigment inks.
The raw fibres are grown and processed in China and this is then distributed via sea and road freight to the UK to be printed in a small studio Worcestershire.
This product helps to support both organic cotton and hemp farmers and also supports a small UK rural based business.
