Who we areOne Eco Home was founded in early 2007 by interior designer Helen Mudie and sustainable design consultant Kate Millbank. We began by putting together a range of desirable furnishings with high sustainability standards and we now also consult on a whole range of eco interior design projects.
From designing interiors for residential clients and supplying eco materials for architects to lecturing on eco design issues, our aim is to show people how easy it is to create healthy, sustainable homes that are stylish, elegant and environmentally-friendly.
Our eco ratingsFrom the labour conditions in the workshop to the use of pesticides in the raw materials, we believe you have a right to know exactly what’s gone into the product you’re buying. So we’ve developed a rigorous assessment process to make sure our products are everything they say they are.
When you’re browsing our site, you’ll see every product is marked with certain ‘eco symbols’. These are awarded after thorough and time-consuming research into the environmental and ethical credentials of the product.
The idea is to give you the background of each product in an honest, fair and transparent way, so that you can make informed comparison and buying decisions. You can find out more our eco credentials and assessment process here.
We’re always busy lecturing, advising, sourcing and designing. If you’d like to find out about what we’ve been up to lately, check out our recent projects page.
A bit about HelenHelen Mudie heads up the Interior Design service at One Eco Home. Helen trained at Inchbald and Chelsea College of Art, and is a member of the British Interior Design Association, she's run a successful interior design business, Free Spirit Interiors Ltd, since 2003. After designing the interior for an eco-build selected for the Grand Designs series, she was hooked and she's been converting her clients to eco products ever since. She prefers the challenge of designing within material constraints, and feels inspired to evolve a new contemporary living style built on healthy, feelgood materials. Helen had the idea for One Eco Home in 2006 and has been instrumental in finding products to include within the range and in developing the overall design criteria for the business. Helen won a commendation for Interior Design of the Year Award with the British Homes Awards for an eco show home for developer Rydon.
Helen is a member of the British Interior Design Association and active in the Associates and Students committee, helping to organize continued professional development for its members.
